Accommodations

Accommodations in Madagascar are very rustic. 5 star accommodation is the equivalent of 4 star in the USA, 4 star equivalent to 3, 3 star equivalent to 2 stars in the USA, so upgraded accommodations are recommended.
Best Time to Go
May through October. January through March is cyclone season and travel during this time is not advised. The island literally shuts down due to severe rain and storms. September to December is a good time to visit, as many of the snakes and lizards populating the island come out of hibernation during this time. Peak months are July and August.
Climate
The East side of the island is characterized be humidity and moisture with frequent rain. The mountains, including Antananarivo, are dry, cool and windy during May to October, shifting to warm and thundery from November to April.

Foreign Accepted Currency
USD, plus Visa, Mastercard. EUR and ZAR also accepted, expect change in local currency and foreign transaction credit card fees.
Immunizations
Visit the CDC website for recommendations and consult with your travel doctor. http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/madagascar. Malaria is prevalent in Madagascar.
Visas
A visa can be issed upon arrival for a $30, but check with the Madagascar consulate as prices can change unexpectedly.
Wifi
Very unreliable. Expect little or no wifi and limited internet access. If it is available there is a charge to use it in the hotel lobbies.
Wildlife
Lemurs, the world's smallest gecko, whales, dolphin, sea turtles, marine wildlife and frog species.
