Best Time to Go: Year-round. People are sometimes advised against travelling during the rainy season, from June until early October, but Lalibela is now accessible all year, so this is less of an issue than it used to be. A lovely time of year is September through to early October, when the whole country is a bloom with wild meskel flowers. The most popular time to visit Ethiopia is October through January, when the rains are over but the countryside is still bright green.

Climate: From periodic snowfall on the peaks of Bale, to typical daytime temperatures of more than 50ËšC in the Danakil Desert, Ethiopia offers a wide climatic variation.  The central highlands have a temperate climate averaging around 16ËšC daily, making sense due to its proximity to the equator. The far south and eastern lowlands are dry and hot. The western lowlands are uniquely tropical and mostly humid and hot. The southern Rift Valley, mostly at an altitude of 1,500m, is seasonally moist and temperate to hot.
